Coconut Grove oozes old school charm, and as the oldest neighborhood in Miami, is established as a tried and true place to raise a family. Q: Will the traffic drive me crazy?
A: Anytime you live in a big city, there will be certain days and times where traffic is a bit more congested than others. However, compared to other major cities, it’s really not that bad. Many people live within walking distance of their jobs, and don’t even have to take a car to get to work. Others take advantage of all of the public transportation options, such as the Metrorail and the Metromover. The metrorail is a 22-mile commuter train that runs from West Palm to Downtown Miami, and down even further to Dadeland. Trips start at around $2, and can be purchased in bulk for daily commutes. The main difference between the Metromover and the Metrorail is that the Metromover is free. It works in smaller circles, and takes commuters around Downtown Miami and Brickell, and also serves as a shuttle from Metrorail and Metrobus. There are public buses and free trolleys that also help commuters get around the city and avoid traffic.
Q: What is there to do on a Saturday afternoon?
A: Many people think of Miami as a hot place to party when the sun goes down, but the truth is, you can pack your days full of adventure and excitement as well. There are amazing restaurants like Yardbird, Pubbelly, and Joe’s Stone Crab (all which have been listed on the list of 10 Best South Beach Restaurants in The Miami New Times.) For more casual eats, (and the locals may hate us for giving away their secret hot spots) you have to try La Locanda, Tap Tap, Doraku Sushi and Las Olas Café. When you’re full and ready to explore, there are countless museums, art galleries, parks, golf courses, and of course plenty of water activities like fishing, boating, sailing, and diving. There’s the zoo, speedboat tours, live music venues, theatre performances, spas, and of course plenty of places to shop. You can easily pack your weekend with fun (and even free!) things to do both indoors and outdoors. Living in a downtown Miami condo puts you close to all of the local attractions and events!
Q: And what about the nightlife?
A: We thought you’d never ask! Sexy and stylish rooftop bars with incredible happy hour specials are always a great place to start your evening. Area 31 at Epic Hotel is always a hit, along with Fifty Miami Ultra Lounge and Juvia on Lincoln Road. For something a little calmer, bars and lounges like Bleau Bar (Elvis and Frank Sinatra preformed here!) For those who like rum, check out the hidden rum bar called Rum Line at the Loews Hotel. If you’re looking for a more casual, jeans and t-shirt, “everyone knows your name” kind of spot, Abbey Brewing Company and Radio Bar are comfortable and fun places to relax after a busy day at the office. Like jazz music? Check out Jazid. Like to salsa dance? Shimmy over to Hoy Como Ayer. Looking for the hottest dance clubs?
